According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Denison IA has a population of 8,298.  There are 2,816 households, and 1,866 families, residing in the city.  The population density was 1,268.0 people per square mile.  There were 2,968 housing units at an average density of 458.3/square mile. The racial makeup as reported by the Census was 70.6% White, 2.3% African American, 0.6% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 2.3% from two or more races.  Hispanic or Latino of any race were 42.1% of the population.  While this diversity may seem low compared to national demographics, the racial makeup of the town has been changing since the mid-1980s.  

There were 2,816 households out of which 34.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families.  Approximately 13.7% of households had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.36.

In the city, the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 11.2% aged from 18 to 24, 26.3% aged from 25-44, 19.3% aged from 45 to 64 and 13.9% who were 65 years of age or older.  The median age was 35 years.  For every 100 females there were 95.3 males.  

The median income for a household in the city was $44,273, and the median income for a family was $41,362.  Males had a median income of $30,145 versus $20,538 for females.
